RACE POLICIES

Swimmer Eligibility

This race is not for novices; it is for experienced open-water swimmers only.

To participate, you should be able to swim 3/4 mile comfortably in 45 minutes.

  • If swimmers do not round the halfway buoy in 45 minutes they can be pulled from the water per the discretion of the race director.

All swimmers must be a US Masters Swimming member or purchase a one-day membership at registration.

All swimmers must be 18 years of age or older.

Cancellation

We reserve the right to cancel the race if conditions are unsafe.  Some potential reasons for race cancellation:

  • Weather on race day: rain, lightning, high winds

  • Water quality test results that do not meet safety standards

  • River at flood stage due to recent rains, due to possibility of woody debris or other hazards coming downstream or unsafe water quality due to storm-water runoff or sewage overflows.

NOTE: In the event of race cancellation, we will notify all participants via email as well as post to this website. There will be no rain date due to scheduling restrictions at race location.

Refunds

Due to the fixed cost of running an event such as this, we do not offer refunds for event cancellation or if you are unable to swim for any reason.

Substitutions

Under no circumstances may you sell, trade, or allow someone else to use your entry.  Such substitutions jeopardize our insurance and our ability to secure the permits necessary to produce future events.

Safety
Race officials have the authority to pull a swimmer out of the water for the swimmer’s safety. Potential dangers include, among others, hypothermia and other medical conditions, changes in weather or water condition, or conflicts with boat traffic. Lifeguards and kayakers will be patrolling and monitoring the course and a medical team will be available to assist in case of a medical emergency.
